“Especialistas en trenes de calidad y de coleccion” … now I don’t speak Spanish or Catalan, but by my guess, that means something alone the lines of “Specialists in quality and collectable trains”. Well that they certainly are! Tucked away on Carrer de la Independencia (Independence Road), this train shop appeared to be the only one in the city when I did a search. It afforded a nice afternoon walk, with the shop re-opening at 5pm after a siesta break.
If you like your HO then this place is your oasis. If you like your n gauge (like me) then you won’t find it here. This shop is a specialist in continental HO. However, don’t let that put you off! I was fortunate enough to meet Pere – the owner of the shop – who was more than willing to make up for my woeful Spanish and spent a good half an hour chatting to me about the various makes of continental HO models, from Rocco to Trix to Electrotren, and so on … all of which he stocked. Indeed, I recommend this shop to anybody who has some free time in the city as some of the models on display are stunning – Pere displays a lot of his stock; “better than in the boxes” as he told me.
Definitely worth a visit and easily accessible via the city metro, especially from Encants, Sant Pau Dos de Maig and Camp de l’Arpa stations. That said, with Barcelona being such a wonderful city, why on earth would you want to travel around underground!
Pere was most generous in allowing me to take pictures with the display cabinets opened and generously gave me some english language 2016 catalogues for Trix, Brawa and Merklin – thank you Pere!
The locomotives and stock on display is most impressive, and I’ve not really seen such a collection of Spanish models before – a worthy hour spent if you find yourself in Barcelona and want to “step off the Lonely Planet conveyor belt!”
